The pomegranate is a fruit that existed in Valencia many years ago, a tree was planted in the countryside to eat at home was not marketed, the market had no interest in this fruit, until they realized the properties it has to be a red fruit and began to demand pomegranates, farmers began to plant whole orchards of pomegranates, in principle it looked very strange to plant an orchard of pomegranates because it was not normal.
Before being marketed there was only one variety of Valencian pomegranate, in order to have more months to harvest this fruit, other varieties of pomegranates came out, the first is the ACCO variety which is very red and good to eat, although the one that is most cultivated is the variety of pomegranate mollar, It is not as red as the ACCO pomegranate but it is sweeter and has more months to be harvested when they are ripe, before the heavy rains come which spoil the skin and they open, they are no longer commercial although inside they are just as good, they are harvested and stored in a chamber so we can prolong the harvesting season of pomegranates.
Another variety that is grown a lot is the wanderful pomegranate, this is used more for industry as it is very acidic to eat, but there are shops that collect it and sell it to the market as if it were the ACCO variety.
This is not good because they taste it and if they are looking for a good pomegranate to eat, they will not buy the ACCO variety, which is sweeter than the wanderful.
