An ecological method to care for our orange trees
In our fields, we use an ecological and environmentally friendly cultivation method to control Californian scale — without any aggressive chemical products.
One of the most effective techniques we use is sexual confusion with pheromones, a completely natural system increasingly adopted by farmers committed to sustainable agriculture.
❓ What damage does Californian scale cause to oranges?
Californian scale can cause small spots on the peel of the orange. These spots are purely superficial and do not affect the pulp or the taste of the fruit.
The orange remains completely healthy, natural, and edible.
However, the problem is not only cosmetic: this pest can weaken the tree by attacking branches and wood, which can reduce the production and vitality of the orange tree in the long term.
? How do we control it naturally?
We install pheromone diffusers (also called “traps”) that release natural substances into the environment.
These pheromones create confusion among male scale insects, preventing them from finding the females.
Since mating does not occur, the pest population gradually decreases — without the use of insecticides.
