Pruning Pomegranates and Growing Organic Sugar Cane ?✂️

At Quieronaranjas, we continue working the land with the same love and respect our parents taught us. Today we want to talk to you about two crops we carefully cultivate: the pomegranate tree and organic sugar cane.

Pomegranate pruning: key to a good harvest ✂️

During the winter months and early spring, we prune our pomegranate trees to remove dry or poorly positioned branches, helping the tree breathe better, receive more light, and focus its energy on producing high-quality fruit.
We also give the tree shape and strength, which helps prevent disease and makes harvesting easier.

Nothing goes to waste: wood becomes life ♻️

The branches we remove are not thrown away. We shred them in the field and use them as organic matter. As they decompose, they become natural compost, returning nutrients to the soil and improving its structure – a sustainable and eco-friendly way to close nature’s cycle.

Organic sugar cane: sweet, healthy and traditional ?

We also grow organic sugar cane on our farm – a product that’s not very common in Spain, but increasingly appreciated for its taste, health benefits, and versatility.
We don’t use pesticides or chemicals, and we harvest it by hand only when an order comes in, ensuring maximum freshness.

In summer, demand rises, especially in hospitality for cocktails and refreshing drinks. But it’s also great at home: peeled and chewed like a natural gum, in teas, juices, or desserts.

A living field all year round ☀️

The combination of pomegranates and sugar cane allows us to keep the land productive and alive all year long. Thanks to the shredded grass left between the trees, the soil retains moisture better, increases fertility, and supports new growth.

We care for the land like in the past – thinking of tomorrow

Every pruned branch, every harvested cane, and every decision we make in the field has a purpose: to offer you organic, healthy products with a story.
